Fairfield, Connecticut is a historic resort city located just 35 miles northeast of Manhattan along what is known as the “Gold Coast of Connecticut.” With a population of approximately 58,000 residents, Fairfield is one of the oldest communities in the state, dating to 1639. It is situated on the coast of Long Island Sound between the cities of Bridgeport and Stamford. Known as the “dogwood capital of the world,” Money Magazine ranked Fairfield the ninth “best place to live in the United States and the best place to live in the Northeast” in its July 2006 issue. This was based on Fairfield's low crime rate, excellent schools, suburban character, resort beaches and close proximity to both New York and scenic Litchfield County. Fairfield has many unique characteristics, including Lake Mohegan, which includes waterfalls called “The Cascades,” which is located in the middle of the town and is a popular spot for hiking.

With its 40 miles of active coastline in Fairfield County – eight miles alone in the city of Fairfield, this is a unique and diverse vacation spot. The coast is indented by numerous coves and harbors that reach inland to gently rolling wooded hills. The Fairfield resort beaches beckon visitors, while nature preserves and historic sites offer even more opportunities for exploration. Fairfield resort beaches are very clean and well maintained and are an extraordinary place for sailing and other water sports. Every season in Fairfield has its own unique beauty and spring, summer and fall allow visitors to enjoy a great variety of outdoor activities, including swimming, fishing, boating, cruises, or just sunbathing on the beautiful beaches. Wintertime offers opportunities for ice-skating and cross-country skiing. Fairfield also features six golf courses and five tennis courts. The climate in Fairfield is more hospitable than most areas in New England and Connecticut, and this is especially true for the areas along the coastline. This is what makes Fairfield, Connecticut resort beaches an especially wonderful vacation destination.

Residents and visitors alike note Fairfield's classic New England beauty, with its well preserved downtown area, resort beaches, 1,000 acres of public open space, horse farms and peaceful country roads lined with centuries old fieldstone walls. The Southport area of Fairfield is an especially well- preserved old seafaring neighborhood that is said to have one of the most beautiful harbors in New England. What could be more picturesque? The whole Fairfield resort beach area is the gateway to the coastal region for neighboring New York. All along the area you will find seaside marinas and restaurants that are tucked among the the town beaches. Shopping in the area is upscale and there is a long list of notable museums in the area, including the Barnum Museum, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum and the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk. There is also a list of year round special events that take place in the town. With so much to offer, Fairfield, Connecticut is a great choice – whether it's a weekend getaway from the city or a unique vacation destination for the entire family.
